Our beautiful Alaina turned 17 yesterday!
We celebrated with a raspberry chocolate mousse cake and then lots of karaoke and "name that song."
Janae painted a perfect portrait of Alaina's bunny, Rosie,
and Alaina got her "pink calculator" and fancy editions of the Hunger Games books she'd wanted.
But the day before, she also picked out her prom dress!
We had been looking all summer at countless different dresses at many different stores, but Alaina had pretty much decided that she wanted a light pink dress.
For her birthday, she'd got her second ear piercings (in the same place and 10 years after she'd got her first ones!) and even picked out light pink earrings to "match her prom dress."
Then on Friday she fell in love with a deep red dress. On Saturday we went back to the store with her original favorite, and when she tried it on back to back with the red dress, she chose the red!
Now she just has to wait until May to wear it :)
So, 17 years old with a prom dress and starting Grade 12 tomorrow--how can this be?
We're so grateful for Alaina and hope this next year slows down a bit before she's truly all grown up!
