A Break and a Crash

We started spring break in the usual way: celebrating Jason's birthday! This year, he wanted to go to Anton's Pasta, which gives a prize if you can finish your dinner. It's almost impossible to do, but Jason was up for the challenge and received a pen for his efforts :) The rest of us were eating leftovers for three more days at home!

We had Jason's cake a couple of days later, on his actual birthday. (I think that would have been too much for one day, even for Jason!)

Then we spent the rest of the two weeks going to favorite places like Granville Island

and Kitsilano's Maritime Museum.

We also went for a few walks and spent some time just relaxing at home with Rosie.

On the last day, we visited UBC's Museum of Anthropology--a place we'd never been before. We only had a couple of hours there but could have easily spent the whole day.

On Monday, when the kids went back to school, I had some shopping to do. By 10:30 a.m., I was on the way home when my car was hit by a truck at a busy intersection. I have no memory of the impact--the first thing I remember is spinning and seeing a red light (and being confused by the air bags).

I thought I had absent-mindedly gone through the red light, but learned later from several witnesses that I hadn't been at fault. Someone called 911 and took pictures of the car while I just stood there crying.

Luckily no one was badly hurt, but two weeks later, I still have a stiff neck and shoulders, headaches and some bruising. My car wasn't drivable, and we are waiting to see if it can be fixed or if we'll have to find a new one (they said we should hear back within 6 weeks). So, unfortunately, that split second had a lasting impact.

Such a sad way to end our peaceful spring break!
