With the end of the school year, we will all be moving on....
First, our two graduates, moving on from high school to college and from elementary school to middle school (Alaina referred to this last one as "the biggest demotion of a person's life"). Janae and Eric went out to celebrate together :)
Once again, Eric's year-end assembly was at the same time as Janae's. Jason and Ben went to the elementary school while I went to the high school with Janae and Alaina.

I saw Eric an hour later when I was at his school for lunch supervision--my very last day with those kids. We have had kids at this school for SIXTEEN YEARS consecutively, starting with little Benny in kindergarten two days after Alaina was born, and ending June 26 with Eric (looking like the BFG receiving his traditional graduation chocolate bar from a little boy in Grade 1).
So, it's not surprising that when I walked down the hallway for the last time, tears started to fall. During lunch that day, one of the little Grade 1 students who always walked with me said, "My favorite part of school is lunch because I just love walking with you!"
I have loved being at this school--it has a beautiful view of the mountains and farms surrounding it, and our kids have had wonderful teachers and friends there. Some of the teachers have taught all four kids, and many have taught at least two or three. I will miss our time there, and especially being a noon-hour supervisor--except on the cold, windy and rainy days, or on the days when all the kids are fighting :)
I didn't cry at Janae and Alaina's assembly, though! (Eric will be starting there in September, so we'll have another seven years....)
Janae and Alaina both received a Renaissance award for outstanding achievement in academics and the arts. (When I told Jason, he said, "Isn't that the award for people who are good at everything?") Janae had received this award in Grade 6 and Alaina in 6 and 7, so it had been a few years.
They have both worked hard this year and achieved so much to be proud of. Janae got one of the highest marks in her class on the Chemistry 12 exam, and she tied for first place in English 12. Alaina ended Math 10 with 95 percent and got A's in all her other academics and arts as well. She will now be moving on to the more challenging courses of Grades 11 and 12 (which was where high school started back in my day....).
The grads typically wear their prom dresses/suits to this assembly, so it was also fun for Janae and her friends to dress up one last time.
Since then, we've moved on to some of our summer favorites:
the Scandinavian festival (a little cold and rainy this year!),
Bard on the Beach (we saw Much Ado about Nothing--one of my favorites!) and the planetarium,
and lots of down time.
We are all happy to move on from busy school days to a nice, relaxing break!
