If You Give This Girl a Dress Form....

This Christmas, more than anything else, Janae wanted a dress form to help her with her sewing. While we knew this would be a useful purchase, we probably didn’t realize all it would imply….. Kind of like in the kids' book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie :)

So, if you give Janae a dress form, she’s going to want a hoop skirt to go with it. Seeing the hoop skirt, she’ll want to make a petticoat, and then she’ll need some fabric.

Once she’s got all that satin, she’ll need a large patch of floor where she can cut out a giant circle skirt.

When the skirt is cut out, she’ll need a fancy top to make it into a ball gown.

Once Janae sees the gown, she will want to cut out layers and layers of sparkly netting to go over the top.

And you know, when Janae sees that beautiful dress on the dress form, she’ll want to try it on (even if she’s sick with a bad cold!).

After that, the dress form will be free, and Janae will be ready for a new idea.

Because if you give this girl a dress form, the one thing she will need is a project :)

(The beautiful burgundy ball gown was a capstone project for her Grade 10 careers class, where one career she explored was seamstress.)

Our Celebration Continues

When Christmas and New Year's are finished, getting back to regular life can seem kind of depressing.

New Year’s Eve 2022

I experienced this a bit last week when we took down our tree and sent our kids back to school.

BUT, we are so very lucky to have something to celebrate during the second week of January: Eric's birthday! This year is extra special because Eric turns 9 on the 9th, and because he got to have his first party with friends from school :). Between Covid restrictions and me not being organized enough to get something planned right after Christmas, it has taken this long!

Lately, Eric has been interested in Jurassic World Lego, so we decided to use a dinosaur theme for the cake and decorations.

Then we thought about having one of the girls (it ended up being Janae) dress up in an inflatable dinosaur costume and letting the kids chase her with Nerf guns. A little more violent than our usual parties, but it was pretty fun!

Here's a short video of Eric Being Captured by a Dinosaur.

Then it all ended with video games because ... well, that's just what you have to do at a 9-year-old boy's birthday party.

Eric said it was his favorite birthday ever, and he hasn't even officially turned 9 yet!

This boy definitely brightens up our lives and gives us something to celebrate—not just by extending the festivities in January but by being such a kind, loving and lively part of our family every day of the year :)
