Somehow it's the last day of spring break ... where has the time gone?
The first week was pretty eventful with Janae getting her "L" (learner's driver's license) and driving for the first few times.
Alaina also witnessed a hamster miracle as Sibby and Lola finally became friends. Alaina had researched Roborovski hamsters and found that they thrived in same-sex pairs ... but that was not our reality for the first several weeks. Finally, Janae took a turn at trying to bond them, and within half an hour these tiny girls had fully accepted each other. They have been in the same enclosure ever since, and they are so adorable as they snuggle up together, explore together, and even run on their wheels together.
Thursday night, it was time to head to Seattle to celebrate Jason's 50th birthday! We hadn't been down to visit my sister Anita and her family since before the pandemic, and we'd finally got our passports and made a plan to go.
We woke up on Jason's birthday to a beautiful sunny day.
Jason had wanted to do an underground tour, so we went with Anita, Mike and Jordan to learn about the history of Seattle.
It was fascinating to see what remained of the original sidewalks, which had been built below the city, and to hear about the area's development.
Our tour guide didn't spare any jokes about the sewage problems the early city experienced! Who knew that the toilet played such a huge role in Seattle's history?
After the tour, we headed over to Pike Place Market.
We had lunch, watched fish being thrown,
and saw the gum wall--Jason thought it was pretty gross, but Eric thought it was amazing ... the difference between being 50 and being 9, I guess :)
We went for dinner at a Mexican restaurant, then went to Anita's for chocolate cake, a fire, and hot tubbing.
The next day we headed home early because our house is for sale and the realtor was holding an open house. Unfortunately, I got really sick that afternoon and was non-functional for the next few days.
So, the kids had lots of time for reading, playing and just relaxing at home.
Before spring break ended, though, we were able to go out for ice cream,
and have a family game of bowling.
Jason and some of the kids went bowling a few months ago, but I hadn't been since our kids were really little. So, I was pretty surprised when I got a strike on my first turn and then went on to win the game :)
And now we're all back to school and work tomorrow!
