Baby Newspapers: They're REAL, and they WORK!

As the youngest of four children, Eric sometimes finds himself at a disadvantage when it comes to arguments. This was the case one day last January, when Eric was trying to convince his siblings that Captain Feathersword was real. After arguing for quite some time, Eric said, "When I was in Mommy's tummy, I read it in the Baby Newspapers!"

Since then, when Eric has tried to argue an unpopular point of view, he has often cited the "Baby Newspapers" as evidence. Janae will often get into arguments with her little brother, telling him that these newspapers are NOT real. This upsets Eric even more.

A week ago, though, an issue of the Baby Newspapers arrived on Eric's bedroom doorstep.

I was very surprised, but read the newspaper aloud to Eric.

It was all about the importance of going to Primary, which is the class at church for Eric's age group.

When Eric started Primary at the beginning of the year, he loved it. Of all my kids, he had the easiest transition into going to class without me.

Then a few months ago, he stopped going. He actually full-out refused to go, and no sticker chart, promise of reward, offer to sit with his sisters, or even offer to have Daddy go in would convince him to try.

Around that time, Eric also discovered that I'd been called as the nursery leader, which meant I was in the classroom next door with the children 18 months to three years old. In the nursery we play with toys, have a snack, play with play dough, and blow bubbles. So, the choice was kind of obvious.

Anyway, the baby newspaper had advertisements for diapers and baby food, pictures of baby dance parties, AND some very convincing words about going to Primary, written by the Baby Police.

The newspaper also admonished Eric to read the paper every day, which he did--you might even say religiously.

Another edition arrived a few days later, containing similar messages.

And today? Eric went into Primary with no trouble at all.

So, not only did we discover that the baby newspapers are real, we learned that they actually work.

And now even Janae (whose handwriting bears a suspicious resemblance to the font used by the Baby News) believes!
